Missouri apparently hasn’t done enough to impress national voters this offseason.
On3 released its Way-Too-Early Top-25 rankings for the 2026 college football season, and the Tigers were left completely out. That omission stings for a Mizzou program coming off an 8–5 campaign and a No. 25 finish in the final 2025 AP Poll, even if last season ended with a Gator Bowl loss to Virginia.

Despite the unranked status, Eli Drinkwitz hasn’t stood still. Missouri has already brought in more than 20 transfers, retooling a roster that lost key contributors to both the NFL and the portal. Still, On3’s voters weren’t sold, pushing the Tigers just outside the preseason picture.
Why the Disrespect?
The snub is surprising given Missouri returns arguably the best running back in the country in Ahmad Hardy and projects to field another tough, disciplined defense. It’s fair to wonder how teams like Arizona or Houston landed in the Top-25 while Mizzou didn’t.
The Tigers’ transfer class currently sits at No. 23 nationally—solid, but not flawless. Edge rusher remains a glaring concern following the departures of Zion Young and Damon Wilson II, and many of the newcomers, including high-upside quarterback Austin Simmons, are still unproven at the highest level.

Boom-or-Bust Potential
Ultimately, Missouri’s ranking—or lack thereof—comes down to risk. On3 appears skeptical of a roster built on upside rather than certainty. If Simmons stays healthy and unlocks Drinkwitz’s offense, the Tigers could quickly look like a top-15 team. If injuries or inexperience get in the way, the early doubts may prove justified.
Either way, Mizzou won’t lack motivation heading into 2026. Being overlooked might be exactly the fuel the Tigers need.
