The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly considering bringing Eric Bieniemy back as their Offensive Coordinator (OC) — one of the key architects of the team’s golden era — after the role became vacant and the team needed to re-establish its offensive firepower. According to NFL Network, the Chiefs have requested an interview with Bieniemy in preparation for his appointment to the position in the 2026 season.
Bieniemy, 56, spent ten seasons with the Chiefs from 2013–2022, including five years as OC from 2018–2022. Under his leadership, the Chiefs averaged 30.1 points per game, winning Super Bowls LIV and LVII with Patrick Mahomes at the peak of his career.

After leaving the Chiefs in 2023 to become the point guard for the Washington Commanders, Bieniemy had an unsuccessful season there before moving to UCLA and most recently taking on the role of point guard for the Chicago Bears. The Chiefs’ desire to reunite with Bieniemy comes as they finished the 2025 season with a 6–11 record—their first playoff miss in over a decade—and their current point guard, Matt Nagy, has ended his contract.

This is seen as a strategic move to restore their offensive strength, as the Chiefs seek to rediscover the “winning formula” that helped them dominate the AFC and compete for NFL championships for many seasons.
