Commanders Projected to Add Star Power to Offense in Free Agency

The Washington Commanders entered the 2025 NFL season with momentum and expectations—but things quickly unraveled.

After a surprise run to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, Washington took a major step backward in 2025, stumbling to a 5–12 record and missing the playoffs altogether. With that disappointing finish, significant roster changes are expected this offseason, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

One area drawing attention is the backfield.

Washington Predicted to Pursue Breece Hall

According to ESPN analyst Aaron Schatz, the Commanders could make one of the biggest splashes of the upcoming free agency period by signing New York Jets running back Breece Hall.

Schatz believes Washington’s underwhelming ground game makes Hall an ideal target:

“The Commanders will make a big splash by signing running back Breece Hall, a talented rusher and receiver who will be just 25 years old next season. Rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt didn’t take the league by storm, and Chris Rodriguez Jr. wasn’t spectacular either. Washington finished 23rd in run offense DVOA this season.”

Hall would immediately elevate the Commanders’ offense. The Jets star is coming off a career-best season in which he rushed for 1,065 yards while adding 350 receiving yards, showcasing his ability to impact games both on the ground and through the air.

At just 25 years old, Hall fits the timeline of a team looking to rebound quickly. His explosive playmaking and versatility could give Washington the offensive spark it sorely lacked in 2025—and potentially help propel the Commanders back into playoff contention.

If Washington is serious about turning the page, landing a proven dual-threat weapon like Breece Hall would be a bold and franchise-altering move.
